2022 - A Year I'm Glad is Over
About 15 years ago, my uncle described the deep loss he felt over the course of three years. During each of those years, he lost a sibling. He named all three of his siblings and then began to cry as he struggled to say that the entire experience was difficult.
His words stayed with me and I asked myself, 'What would it be like to be confronted with death year after year?' Part of me wishes I hadn't asked the question because I got the answer in 2022.
We buried my grandma in May. My godfather passed away in September followed by my godmother in November. After 67 years of marriage, she didn't want to live without him and decided to pass on, too. And then my aunt died suddenly in December. I'm glad 2022 is over. But I did get an answer to my question and the answer is that so much death leaves me numb to loss.
