Binary Opposition Diptych 1
The future and the past
Colour vs. black & white
Vibrant yellow contrasting mournful black
Life and Death
In the sculpture above, a French-Canadian man and a First Nations woman are holding hands. This is symbolic of their plan to unite and build a future together. In the photograph on the right, my aunt is placing her hand on her loved-one's urn in recognition of their past and to say good-bye.
My aunt's hands are active in the colour picture. She was being intense, as was usual for her. In the black and white picture, her hand is resting and quiet.
Her yellow bunny hug is bright like the summer sun, but later she wore a black one in mourning on a cold, cloudy, windy day when ashes were laid in the ground.

When I took the right-hand picture, I had no idea cancer was spreading in my aunt's lungs. She didn't know either; although not long after she would lament that the food meant to nourish her tasted like metal. She was admitted to the hospital on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022 and we were hopeful her cancer treatments would begin soon, but on Monday Dec. 5 the doctor told her the cancer was so advanced there was no point to... She died that night.
